Sometimes woodworkers just wanna have fun with wood. No plans, no product idea. Just do something different. Well, that's what I got when I created a "barn quilt pattern" on pine wood. Then cut it out in the "X" form you see. Oh, forgot to mention... I BURNED the wood first! I love burning wood, especially pine, to bring out the veins in the grain patterns. I also, lined up a major knot in the wood at the center of the pattern.
I think it looks pretty cool now but maybe I can do more. What do you think?
Speaker in the middle? Lay it down and cut out holes for candles? Add LED lighting?
Side note on the burning of wood like this. This technique is called Shou Sugi Ban. This Japanese wood-burning technique involves charring wood planks. The result is a blackened, rustic wood that is resistant to fire, water, and pests. Pretty cool!
